  1. The docklands is an urban development area
  2. East of St Katherine's Dock in London, It 
  3. occupys the site of the former Wapping and
  4. Limehouse docks, the Isle of Dogs, and Royal
  5. Docks. It comprises of over 2,226hectares 
  6. (5,550acres) of former wharves, warehouses, 
  7. and wasteland. Plans for its redevelopment
  8. were set in motion 1981 and by 1993 over 
  9. 13,000 private housing units had been built.
